Bubble Display
The properties of Total Internal Reflection, vital to the transmission of light along optical fibre threads, is demonstrated here in its interruption.
Light trapped within the clear transmission media emits only at each point of interruption. Thus the acrylic rod - actually originally rejected as flawed due to the insidence of all the bubbles of trapped air during its formation - transormed itself into a tool to delight many creative interior designers.
Its early exposure at this lighting exhibition was followed by its widespread use as a decor feature, and even as illuminated handrailing up and down the staircases, of the newly re-furbished Trocadero Centre off Piccadilly Circus in London.
