Bracken House Canopy
The design intent for the decorative feature lighting of the new entrance canopy at Bracken House was for pools of to fall into the glazed surfaces from above - a concept that would render the use of standard lighting impossible to maintain.
Absolute Action were commissioned to develop a fibre optic lighting system that would achieve the desired effect. A series of elliptical footprints of light were cast from invisible heads onto the upper surface of the glass, the fibres and optical lenses themselves being contained actually within the structural metalwork.
Not only were the lights themselves contained invisibly so as not to compromise any of the architectural grace of the structure, but Absolute Action also designed a special stainless steel exterior-rated cylindrical version of the 150w Spectralux 6000 light source. These were suspended as a visual continuum to the tubular steel, and as such were readily accessible to provide easy maintenance.
A total of 88 output downlights running off only 7 light sources are used to provide the desired illumination requiring only some 14 watts per output.
